What is SID

SID is the Ministry of Sports & Youth, Sports Industry Division, which has been formed to focus on the business aspect of Sport. This is an initiative spearheaded by YB Dato Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek to finally develop the Ministry of Sports & Youth into a net contributor to Malaysia’s GDP. Today Sports is big business as countries and cities bid to host International events with the knowledge that the multiplier effect can benefit the economy. Supporting these sporting events are specialized skills and industry covering, sports law, corporate hospitality, sponsorship, event management, manufacturing, stadia architecture, sports marketing and so on……

All these industry/business emanating from sport is the priority of Sport Industry Division as we aim to help grow it further. It is well held belief that the bigger and market driven the Sport Industry is in Malaysia, invariably the better the performance of sport shall come.

DEVELOPMENT of the sports industry has been outlined as the fifth strategic core in the Strategic Plan to Enhance Economic Growth by the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).

The plan also aims to contribute towards the nations’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and also increase the Gross National Income (GNI) from US$7,000 to US$15,000 per capita by the year 2020.

Based on the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA), KBS is taking the same approach in developing the Sports Industry Lab with the goal of making sports an industry which meets the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).

KBS will be working with the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) and Malaysian Administrative and Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) to make the Sports Industry Lab scheduled for Sept 22-29 at National Sports Council, Bukit Jalil, a success.

The primary objective of implementing the Sports Industry Lab is to define a goal and come up with a strategic plan for the national sports industry.

Other objectives are to determine strategies, initiatives and also suggestions which could help change the industry.

The Lab intends to get input from the private sector, sports companies and determine stakeholders to work together towards transforming sports into a viable industry.

The Sports Industry Lab will be divided into three sub-labs –

1. Sports Products and Equipment Industry,

2. Sports Facilites Industry

3.Sports Services Industry.

KBS is targeting 30 industry movers from the private and government sectors to participate in all three labs to ensure comprehensive feedback is acquired.

KBS welcomes industry movers to join to help the government make this sports industry lab a success.

(the above statement was excepted from Sport Industry Malaysia offcial WebSite http://sid2.juanwei.com/)

Question: Are paintball is WELL represented in the committee if yes who is our "representative"? Something that Association or Federation should seriously look into this, Another good move by our government but we shouldnt be left behind as we are propelling the world fastest growing leisure and most expensive sport.

Or quietly there are some party already in the comiittee If yes, please Dont let history repeat (pisang berbuah berkali kali)

I like to hear from Captains of Our Industry. Please say it without fear or favor.
